Now, free e-rickshaw rides to board candidates in West Bengal's Siliguri

e-rickshaw drivers in West Bengal's Siliguri have announced to provide free services for students appearing for their higher secondary board examination. The board exams are being conducted in the state from March 14 to March 27.

Darjeeling district president of INTTUC Nirjal Dey, district vice president Sadhan Roy, block-2 president Sujit Bhowmik, district member Pradeep Majumder held a meeting and took this initiative. The e-rickshaw service, which is completely free of cost, has been started for board candidates only.

e-rickshaw drivers will carry the students from their residences to the respective examination centres, that too, free of cost. The services, which were launched on Thursday, from Arvind Palli Samar Bidi Factory, Ward No. 22, Siliguri Purnigam, will continue till the end of the board examination.

An e-rickshaw driver said, "Some exam centers are within 3 km from home, some are 10 km away from students' home. Many were worried about how they would reach the exam centre on time. The rikshaw puller association affiliated with Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) decided to provide free e-rickshaw services on exam days to relieve their worries."

The service will be provided in ward no 17 of Town 2 Block. About 50 e-rickshaw drivers joined this initiative.

e-Rickshaw Union President Rakesh Pal said, "About 50 e-rickshaws will provide this free service on every exam day. Posters are pasted on e-rickshaws that offer this service. Candidates can reach the exam center free of charge by taking those e-rickshaws. We are doing this work thinking about the future of the candidates who also come from far away. Hence, this is a contribution from our end.''
