Tesla chief executive Elon Musk sold $6.9 billion of his shares in the electric car maker, his biggest sale on record, saying he needs cash in case he is forced to proceed with his aborted deal to buy Twitter. “In the [hopefully unlikely] event that Twitter forces this deal to close *and* some equity partners don’t come through, it is important to avoid an emergency sale of Tesla stock,” the world's richest person tweeted on Tuesday night, after the sales were disclosed in a series of regulatory filings. Asked by followers if he was done selling and whether he would buy Tesla stock again if the $44 billion deal did not close, Mr Musk, 51, said “yes”. The billionaire offloaded about 7.92 million shares on August 5, according to the new filings. US congressman Scott Perry said his phone was seized by the FBI two days after a team of law enforcement officials raided former president Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Mr Perry, a Republican ally of Mr Trump, has been investigated and has given evidence in the continuing probe into the January 6 storming of the US Capitol last year, during which five people died. Three agents seized his phone while he was travelling with his family, said an “outraged” Mr Perry. However, he did not reveal why the device was confiscated. Alphabet's Google services stopped working for thousands of users late on Monday, according to the tracking website Downdetector.com. The website tracked disruption in the US, as well as Japan, Canada and Australia. Many users took to social media to question the rare outage, which appeared to last a few hours. For some, the availability of Google's suite of programs, including Search, Maps and Gmail, was intermittent. Users attempting to use the search engine were met with a 502 or 500 error.
